Happy release week to RUNNING WILD by K.A. Tucker! I was so excited when Tucker announced she’d be taking us back to Alaska, this time with Marie at the helm. Her character really intrigued me in the first 3 books, and I’m so happy Tucker gave us the opportunity to get to know her better. Below you’ll find a synopsis and my review. You can also read my reviews of book 1: THE SIMPLE WILD here, book 2: WILD AT HEART here, and book 3: FOREVER WILD here. Reading these three aren’t completely necessary to enjoy RUNNING WILD, but they’ll give you a great first glimpse at Marie, and all the characters of this Alaska town.

Veterinarian Marie Lehr knows unrequited love all too well after pining for her best friend, only to watch him marry another woman. It’s a mistake she will never make again, especially not when she can practically hear the clock ticking on her childbearing years.
The trouble is, she can’t seem to find anyone who appeals to her even a fraction as much as that burly bush pilot did. Competitive musher Tyler Brady certainly doesn’t, especially not after the heated altercation with the handsome but arrogant, spiteful man.
Or so she thinks.
While volunteering at the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, Marie discovers that first impressions may have been false, and her attraction to Tyler is very real. But his heart belongs to someone else, leaving him with nothing to offer but friendship. Marie’s been down this road before and knows how that ends. Yet, no matter how hard she works to keep from falling for Tyler, it seems she’s doomed to follow her own trail once again.
I am so happy to be back in this world! I’ve been anticipating this ever since K.A. Tucker announced she was writing Marie’s story. I always hoped Tucker would bring us back to this world she first created in THE SIMPLE WILD, but with the completion of Jonah and Calla’s story, I wasn’t sure we’d get that chance.
What a gift this book is! Not only does it bring back some of our favorite characters and setting, but we’re introduced to a whole new bunch. I wasn’t sure what to think of Marie in the first three books, but I think RUNNING WILD shows and proves how misunderstood she was. Marie is in her late 30s, and longing for a partner, a companion, a family of her own. With her two younger sisters married and having babies, and her best friend recently married; she wonders if that will ever happen for her. Her loneliness is palpable and I connected with her on a lot of different levels.
Both Marie and her love interest Tyler make many mistakes and missteps in this book. Tyler definitely needs to go to therapy to work through his grief and loss. I liked how Marie was cognizant of the fact she needed to guard her heart – even if that wasn’t always easy. There was a lot of back and forth with these two, and it felt a little tedious at times, but I could understand where each of them was coming from.
There aren’t a lot of romances featuring almost-40, never-been-married, childless heroines and frankly that’s a shame. We need more of them. I’m so glad K.A. Tucker gifted us with Marie’s story.
